The Tallest Flower of the tower
La flor más alta de la torre

The series of watercolors that make up The Tallest Flower consist of a stylistic exercise that begins by making a copy as perfect as possible of a painting that my grandfather painted almost a century ago.

Small progressive variations in the copy of the copy produce a sequence of watercolors that begins to function narratively in the manner of a comic, to illustrate the painter grandfather's own circumstances. The bell tower that appears in the original painting lengthens over time, multiplying in a landscape with a common horizon, at once panorama and sequence.

This allows us to see the portrait of the grandfather ringing the bells inside the bell tower that he himself painted. But the comic is not limited to portraying his figure but also describes the fall (and subsequent reproduction) of an entire patriarchal genealogy.

On this occasion, the watercolors are displayed precisely in the tower of the Can Castells Art Center of Sant Boi, whose building had belonged to the grandfather's family.

La serie de acuarelas que conforman La flor más alta, consisten en un ejercicio estilístico que parte de realizar una copia lo más perfecta posible de un cuadro que mi abuelo pintó hace casi un siglo.

Pequeñas variaciones progresivas en la copia de la copia producen una secuencia de acuarelas que empieza a funcionar narrativamente a la manera de un cómic, para ilustrar la propia circunstancia del abuelo pintor. El campanario que aparece en el cuadro original se va alargando en el tiempo, multiplicándose en un paisaje territorial de horizonte común que a la vez es panorama y secuencia.

Esto permite ver al abuelo tocando las campanas dentro del campanario que él mismo pintó. Pero la historieta no se limita a retratar su figura sinó que también describe la caída (y la posterior reproducción) de toda una genealogía patriarcal.

En esta ocasión, las acuarelas se muestran precisamente en la torre del Centro de Arte Can Castells de Sant Boi, cuyo edificio había pertenecido a la familia del abuelo.
