El burdel de la esfinge

“The Sphinx’s Brothel” reviews the aesthetics of 19th-century symbolist painting to reveal an ambiguous scene of sexual abuse, jealousy and crime. Made up of a 7-metre-long oil painting triptych that can be sequentially read, its three stage acts unfold in an allegory about fertility, traversing the triple body of the sphinxes in order to show a peculiar solution to their classic enigma. In the first panel, a self-portrait dressed as a policeman – child, adult and old man at the same time – dies when trying to cross the door of a roadside brothel. In the second, a pair of sphinxes fuck, multiplying themselves by three in the mirrors of one of their rooms. In the third, a newborn sphinx flies over the three skulls of the animals that created her.

“El burdel de la esfinge” revisa la estética de la pintura simbolista del siglo XlX, para desvelar una ambigua escena de abuso sexual, celos y crimen. Formada por un tríptico pintado al óleo de 7 metros de largo y lectura secuencial, sus tres actos escénicos se despliegan en forma de alegoría sobre la fertilidad, recorriendo el cuerpo triple de las esfinges para mostrar una peculiar solución a su enigma clásico. En el primer panel, un autorretrato vestido de policía -niño, adulto y viejo a la vez- muere al intentar atravesar la puerta de un burdel de carretera. En el segundo, una pareja de esfinges folla multiplicándose por tres en los espejos de una de sus habitaciones. En el tercero, una esfinge recién nacida sobrevuela las tres calaveras de los animales que la crearon.
